Butterflies, Ducks, and Lakeside Livin’: Our End of Summer Hurrah

Hartwell Lakeside KOA: August 17 - 21, 2023 Site #15 (other potentials:  #13, #28, #29, #30) Spivey Set Up Crew! Morning views…not too shabby! Geraldine in our spot What a beautiful campground!  This KOA is situated right on Lake Hartwell in Hartwell, GA.  We LOVE this lake!  The campground used to be Hart State Park until it was bought and re-vamped by a KOA franchisee.  While it doesn’t have some of the amenities of other KOAs (no pool, bathrooms are older, etc.), it is a really nice park - all the things we love about a State Park but managed by the KOA. A 5-hour drive from home, we left early on Thursday so we could spend some time lakeside upon arrival. After an uneventful trip (thank GOD!), we arrived and first things we did was spend time at the dump station.  This was a planned “adventure” - Steve had been researching why we weren’t “getting much out” when we dumped - in particular the back bathroom.  So, first thing upon arrival, we attacked the problem from literally both end

PIVOT! And The Camping Trip Not Meant To Be Taken…

Elijah Clark State Park, GA Hartwell Lakeside KOA Staycation / Congaree National Park 7/28/23 - 8/1/23  Part of 7/28 & 7/29/2023 The story of a trip not meant to be taken... We had planned our first trip to Elijah Clark State Park in GA for this weekend.  We were geared up and ready to go!  We had a boat scheduled and were excited for the adventure.  July 20th, major storms ripped through the southeast, downing power and water to the entire park.  Campers had trees down on them and people who were camping there were asked to leave because the park had to be closed,  There was not an ETA for when the park would open.  After watching the website for two days, we decided our best course of action, not knowing if the park would be open, was to try to find something different to support an adventure.   We found a site left at the Hartwell Lakeside KOA on Lake Hartwell where we could be water-side, and we called and were able to get a boat for Sunday, so we made the pivot to cancel Elija
