Steve’s Retirement Trip to Tennessee June/July 2024: Part 2: Rain and Caverns

Sasquatch Farm, South Pittsburgh Tennessee & Raccoon Mountain’s Crystal Cavern

Sasquatch Farm, Site #17

Sunday, 6/30

The day started out gray but we weren’t going to let it ruin things for us! We didn’t have any plans for the day, but decided we needed to explore a little and made reservations to go explore Raccoon Mountain’s Crystal Cavern after lunch *same time zone!

We started out the day by sitting around the table outside and playing with the dogs and…playing games games  - mostly animal trivia and camping question games.

At some point, Auntie became “Alex Quebec” (not Trebec!) and the name stuck.  We literally called her Alex for over half of this trip!  LOL

Soon the rain came - in SHEETS.  Grace decided she didn’t care - it was a warm rain and she began to play in it.  Soon after, Auntie and I joined…after all, what is life if you can’t dance in the rain!?!

After lunch, and dried off, we headed out to Raccoon Mountain and Crystal Cavern.  We had a 4:00 tour and our tour guide was awesome!  TN is the second most prolific state for natural caverns and there are a TON in the Chattanooga/southeast TN area.  Raccoon Caverns did not disappoint.  We were able to walk through and see so many natural formations, meet their resident bats (so tiny!) and salamanders.  It was really fascinating.

After our cave tour, we headed back to Sasquatch Farm and hung out with the dogs, who actually ate (outside!) and painted rocks to put around at places in the park the day we planned to hike.  It was a relaxing evening with fireflies, stars, and quiet!
