Hiking, Biking, and Driving Practice: Spring Break 2025 - Fort Yargo State Park, GA - April 2025

Fort Yargo State Park, GA, Site #31

April 12-20, 2025

Fort Yargo is a park we haven’t been to before and it is known for its biking and hiking paths, which did NOT disappoint. We brought our new electric bikes, which honestly was awesome because they definitely helped us get around, as the park is big. Auntie stayed home because she had just gotten back from Europe, so we’ll have to go back here sometime with her because it was a lot of fun!

Steve’s bike with Kaety was WONDERFUL, as she was able to go bike riding with us every day.  She absolutely loved it and even made a song that was “Wake up, eat breakfast, brush teeth and off to bikes!” :)

Grace heading out to bike - I think she did over 30 miles a day!

The trip did start out a little unnerving as we, yet again, could not get the bunkhouse slide out.  We pushed it out and sent out another Facebook plea for a mobile RV mechanic.  We found Elite RV services right there in Winder, GA and the mechanic came out on the second day.  This time, he did more than just put the slide back, he diagnosed the problem was with the motor not staying seated.  He replaced the motor and then had to realign the slide, he pointed out some spots on the roof that Steve needed fix, he lubed both the Schwintech slides and even fixed our hot water heater that we didn’t realize the thermostat was shorting out on.  His service was EXCEPTIONAL.  I hope we don’t need an RV tech for a long time, but if we do, I hope we get him or someone like him!

We did bring Willow with us on this trip, but not Sam.  We were able to get our favorite dogsitter, Kelly J, to come stay with Sammy and Mirabella.  We actually thought it would be a nice break for Sam because Willow is…a LOT of puppy!

Camping puppy…

Playing is exhausting work!

Grace and I did a lot of trails that were pretty difficult while Kaety and Steve stayed mostly on the paved trails.  There was SO MUCH to do at this park for hikers and bikers!
The park has a small lake that you can boat on, but we loved looking at it from the top of the dam, where the bike path ran!

The next to last day, Grace and I braved “heart attack hill” with our bikes…I *may* have overdone it a bit, and the bike fell back on me as I crested one of the tree root areas.  OUCH.  Good thing this was before my scheduled rotator cuff surgery the week we got back! We were on such rough trails that we both broke our pedals off and Steve will replace them when we get home!

We also all went to the campground store with our bikes and Kaety picked up some books to read back in the camper.

Probably the most exciting part of the trip (for Grace) was that I let her drive my car from the campsite around to the trash bins / dump station.  She did GREAT!  Starting practice for 2 years from now when she gets a permit… YIKES!

It was another successful trip!
