Spring Break and Easter 2024! A Magnificent Time at Mistletoe State Park, GA

 Mistletoe SP, GA, March 30 - April 7, 2024

Site #82

Our Spring Break was spent at Mistletoe State Park in GA, and what a BEAUTIFUL place this was!  We were right on the water and the sunsets were just SPECTAULAR.  We loved the view and though, being on the point, we had some windy (and cold) days, it was simply GORGEOUS.

When we arrived that first day, Grace could not wait to get into the water and since we were right on the water, in she went!  We got hammocks set up near the water and began to enjoy an amazing spot!

Auntie and Grace deep in talks <3

The first full day of our Spring Break was Easter and the Bunny did not disappoint! He brought items inside the camper and all over the camp site! The girls loved hunting eggs and scouring the campsite for treasures!  They got lots of candy and over $80 in coins and cash (Mom and Auntie didn’t realize how much they came out of the Giving Jar!!!)

There were so many amazing trails at Mistletoe!  Auntie, Grace and I went on the Cliatt Creek Nature Trail and it did not disappoint. We decided to geocache along the way and found 3 caches where we were able to put some Hope Rocks rocks into :) !  That said, we did get discombobulated on the second cache and had to find our way back out of the woods…we will be using the Footpath App next time and/or hiker’s tape!

After our geocaching adventure, we headed back to the campsite and found Kaety coloring and playing outside.  She and Grace hung out in the hammock and played Roblox.  Loved that she wanted to be outside…how AWESOME!

We decided since we were right on the lake we would rent a boat and the end of the week was not looking so promising, so we rented a pontoon boat and headed out to the lake.  First of all, the water was COLD.  It was 62-64 degrees!  Our polar bear, Grace, didn’t seem to mind, but Auntie and I thought it was FREEZING…this was one time we wished we were boys so we didn’t have to get into the water!!!  In fact, I got in and freaked out and a stop later, Auntie needed to get in the water.  Since I had been in previously and it felt warmer (it was one degree warmer!) than previously, I told her it was fine to get in.  Well, I think she may never believe me again…it was still REALLY cold!  LOL!

About 4 hours into our adventure, we ran out of water and drinks, so we pulled into the cove where we were camped and Grace went ship to shore to grab drinks for all of us. At some point, my watch got wetter than it liked and I was *sure* someone was trolling us, so we wrapped it in foil to prevent that and…  *spoiler alert - It was just wet!* 👀😂

Kaety actually took a nap!!!!

Stopping for supplies…

While we were camping, Grace met some great kids.  Her posse consisted of Elijah, Jackson, Kai and Zoie.  They ran the campground and played at empty campsites.  Often, we found them hanging out in the laundry room when it was cold outside!  Jackson’s Dad was a park ranger, so he didn’t have to leave when others did and he often came and hung out with us.  He even spent a day painting at our site while we were outside.

No painting for Kaety, but she did love hanging out in the hammock, covered in a towel to stay warm :)

There were several days later in the week where it got much cooler and the crazy winds picked up.  In order to be outside, we had to put up the panels on the awning.  But they really helped and I was able to sit outside and paint!

There was one day prior to the winds picking up that I was able to get out in the kayak.  It was BEAUTIFUL.  I didn’t get any pictures, but we need to go back!  I was able to go out around all the different areas of the park (it is HUGE!!) and see birds, different landscapes, and see the whole park from the water!

Auntie and I ended up going on a long (7 mile) hike around the Rock Dam Trail.  It was AWESOME!  Though we got lost and the beginning (you have to cross the water to even get on the trail!), we found our way onto the trail eventually.  We actually helped a couple of teenaged boys who were lost find their way back before we got on the trail.  We had to cross the water 4 different times and it was quite an adventure and an REALLY beautiful hike.  Despite the fact that we crossed paths with a 4’ long skinny green snake that send Auntie into a panic, I’m so glad we did it!

SNAKE!!!

Every night, despite the weather, the sunsets were simply dazzling. We did NOT want to go home at the end of the week!!!  Would HIGHLY recommend this park!!!
